Claude Lévi-Strauss regards Structural Anthropology as the most representative of his works, Containing seventeen papers, written before 1958 and selected by himself, it demonstrates his application ofthe structural method to a wide range of anthropological concerns, including kinship, social organization, religion, mythology and art.

When the first volume of Structural Anthropology was published it confirmed Claude Lévi-Strauss's reputation as the most influential anthropologist in the Western world.
