THE MEANING OF WORK AND TECHNOLOGICAL OPTIONS
Edited by Veronique de Keyser, Thoralf Qvale, Bernhard Wilpert and S. Antonio Ruiz Quintanilla
This volume is part of the NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND WORK series which has arisen from an international interdisciplinary study group sponsored by the Werner-Reimers-Foundation (Bad Homburg, FRG) and the Maison des Sciences de L'Homme (Paris). The group has set itself the task of intellectually penetrating various problem domains posed by the introduction and spread of new technologies in work settings.
This book addresses the problem of changes in subjective work meanings in the context of new information technologies. The authors outline the historical roots of traditional work ethics and describe the theoretical status of the concept of work meanings within technological development trends. Case descriptions in various industrial settings, international comparative data on work related values and discussions of work analysis and work design strategies, which take these value patterns into account, constitute the major content of the book.
It will be of particular value to advanced students, researchers and professional psychologists in industrial and organizational psychology, human resource management and social policy management.
About the editors Veronique de Keyser is Professor of Work Psychology at the University of Liege, Belgium. Thoralf Qvale is Engineer and Senior Research Fellow at the Work Research Institute, Oslo, Norway. Bernhard Wilpert is Professor of Work and Organizational Psychology at Berlin University of Technology, FRG. S. Antonio Ruiz Quintanilla is Assistant Professor of Work Psychology at the Berlin Univer-sity of Technology, FRG.
