THE COLLECTED WORKS OF C. G. JUNG
VOLUME 17
THE DEVELOPMENT OF PERSONALITY
Translated by R. F. C. Hull

While Jung's main researches have centered on the subject of individuation as an adult ideal, he has also a unique contribution to make to the psychology of childhood and has gone far in applying modern analytical concepts to educational theory and practice. The present volume is a collection of eight papers dealing with this field.
He has repeatedly underlined the overwhelming importance of parents and teachers in the genesis of the intellectual, feeling, and emo-tional disorders of childhood. The three lectures on "Analytical Psychology and Education" expound his views on these subjects. This volume also contains essays on psychic conflicts in the child, gifted children, and the significance of the unconscious in education, and a stimulating paper on "Marriage as a Psychological Relationship." Finally, the essay giving the present volume its title links together the problems of child development and individuation.
The Development of Personality will interest a wide range of readers, from child psychologists to teachers and parents, as technical knowledge is not necessary to its understanding.
This is the fourth volume to appear in the first collected edition, in English, of the noted Swiss psychologist's works.
