About this book: This dictionary embraces all major terms relating to Sikh concepts, beliefs and practices, as well as detailing important historical events, for example, the Sikh wars with the British, and also legislation, such as the Anand Marriage Act and the Gurdwaras Act. Men and women of importance are also included. The dictionary is reinforced with time charts, diagrams, maps, statistics etc. Thus the book might well be regarded as a compendium of Sikh knowledge. Publications include Religion in the Multifaith School, and Six Religions in the Twentieth Century (Hulton), Christianity (Stanley Thornes), and Meeting Hinduism (Longman). Piara Singh Sambhi is a past president of the Leeds gurdwara, a founder member of the Central Committee of British Sikhs, and author of Understanding your Sikh Neighbour (Lutterworth), and Sikhism (Stanley Thornes). Together they have written The Sikhs: Their Religious Beliefs and Practices (Routledge), which is widely used in higher education and has been translated into Japanese and Polish. At present they are working on a book on Sikh-Christian dialogue to be published by Macmillan.
