When the first volume of Structural Anthropology was published it confirmed Claude Lévi-Strauss's reputation as the most influential anthropologist in the Western world. In it, he established and utilized the 'structuralist' method to analyse and explain such basic relationships throughout culture as language, social life, mythology and art.
In this second volume of Structural Anthropology, Lévi-Strauss provides additional contributions to important topics in our intellectual and cultural life. The volume comprises four major sections: 'Perspective Views', 'Social Organization', JMythology and Ritual' and JHumanism and the Hu manities'. Lévi-Strauss focuses on topics which are of great relevance to anthropologists and non- anthropologists alike: comparative religion as it relates to non-literate peoples; how myths die; structuralism and literary criticism; urban civilization and mental health; the future of art; and race in history.
